Creating Custom Fixtures
It was 5 years ago that Mr. Dennis Eberlein, owner of Arizona commercial Lighting in Tucson, Arizona, phoned me and asked for assistance with a night demo for a client. Little did I know that his client was The Weston La Paloma Resort.  The resort was looking to replace it's existing pathlighting with something durable enough to withstand a possible hit by a maintenance cart, as well as protect the dark skies.  Thus THE LA PALOMA LITER was born.  This industrial strength bollard can produce a 12'x12' beam and can be ordered in a Single, Double, Triple and Quadruple sided fixture.  Since the La Paloma job was completed, many other resorts and condominium complexes have chosen the La Paloma Liter for their traverse lighting.

Lance Billings from Desert Rain L/S & irrigation is a big fan of the copper Postliter, Deliter and Starliter.  He asked us to create a fixture with the traits of all three.  At this time Lance was working for Mrs. Kristal Ruben.  The Kristal-liter was created and Lance now has a lifelong customer.  The Kristal-liter is also available with different colored interiors to create any special mood.
When Bill Locklin hired me back in 2001 he sent Connie over to Arizona to see what I was up to.  We did a night demo for Mr. Tom Wray and Ms. Stephanie Massie of Scottsdale, Arizona.  Both were hooked on the Tikiliter and  the Scout.  After the demo, Connie and I thought how great it would be to have a smaller sized Tikiliter for planters and BBQ islands.  A month after she went back to the factory the Savanna made it's debut.

For years, NightscapingŪ has been altering current fixtures as well as creating new ones.  Many great fixtures have come from sketches drawn on a bar room napkin, or from combining popular fixtures into new ideas.

If you have a vision for a custom fixture that you would like to use on a project, please contact Connie at 1-800-544-4840 or email connie@nightscaping.comWe require a drawing with dimensions, materials (copper, stainless steel, brass, etc), and the socket-type specified.

Architect of the Week _ Luis Salazar

It has been my sincere pleasure to work with Luis Salazar owner of  Salazar Associates Architects Ltd.  Luis is a master of contemporary design.  In 1977 after returning to the U.S.A. from service in The Peace Corps in East Africa, Luis opened his own private practice in Phoenix, Arizona.  Luis and I started working together in 2002 on a residence in Phoenix.

This past summer Luis completed phase 1 of the Antoine Proulx  Custom Furniture Design Center.  The pictures in this article are of the evening outdoor reception area of the center.

Customer Testimonial

Hello,

I moved into a new lake home 3 months ago.  The original owner had done extensive and quality landscaping which included a NightscapingŪ lighting system.  Although a relatively simple one, it was very nicely designed.  Unfortunately, the property had been bought by an investment developer who neglected the property for 3 years, with no one living in it for the past 2 years.  Hence, when I moved in, none of the outdoor lighting worked.

Fortunately, the Powercenter(TM) had NightscapingŪ on it and when I did an internet search, I ended up on your site.  From there I was able to ascertain what components were in the system and I learned that it had last been serviced in 2003 (3 1/2 years ago).  Again turning to your site, I found the maintenance schedule, and set about performing the tasks -- a wide variety of insect invaders had made many, many homes in the equipment (including a hive of wasps and large hoards of spiders, as well as white cocoons containing unknown creatures).  I removed the invaders (carefully in the case of the wasps), cleaned out the fixtures, removed what was left of the lamps and took them all to a quality supplier who deals with NightscapingŪ fixtures.  He sorted through the remnants (many of the bulbs were in pieces) and was able to sort out what I needed.  I then replaced all of the lamps, turned the bypass toggle switch to on and presto, the lights worked.  Next, I read the instructions for the Powercenter(TM) and Digital Timer, set everything, and waited until dusk when the lights all went on just as scheduled and turned off again just as nicely at the appointed time.

I was very impressed with the quality of your product that it could survive the degree of neglect that it had experienced and still work perfectly once it was cleaned and re-lamped.  It is a beautiful, as well as quality system.  I feel fortunate that the original owner chose NightscapingŪ.

Transparent Materials - Glass

Luis Salazar used Flippers under crushed glass in the above photo as one of his many materials.  He enjoys working with transparent materials and light to get effects that aren't commonly used.  You can see from the other photos of his work that his lighting effect is dramatic and very specifically placed.  Salazar's hardscape and lighting design work in tandem for optimum effect.
